Bakhtiari people consider fairies beautiful and charming creatures that appear to young people oftenin the woods at night and harm them. This issue has caused mothers to prevent young people from going to the forests and gardens around the springs at night, or to insulate them from any harm, they tie a green package to their arms as a sign of protection. They assume that these creatures belong to the family of the Jinn and young person who is captured by them is called a "fairy". In the traditional narratives of the Bakhtiari people, fairies have a dual appearance: On the one hand, they are is very pretty and charming and, on the other hand, having any contact with them is on a par with harm and detriment. The present paper is aimed towards studying the appearance of fairies in the Bakhtiari folk culture and literature such as Shahname and Samak-Ayar. This research is also concerned with examining the the representation of fairies’ appereance, self-reliance, and the underlying reasons for their appearing to the youth and enticing them. This research was carried out via descriptive-analytical method and the data were collected using library and field sources. The analyses suggest that beauty of fairies and their presence in the gardens and groves is a reminder of the of fairies’ appearance in the ancient Iran which has been realised in the thought and beliefs of the Bakhtiari people.
