A.E. Housman, the sceptic English poet, has been deeply influenced by Omar Khayyām, the Iranian poet and mathematician. The present paper attempts to display the similarities between their works and to discuss the common themes with which these two poets were concerned. A few differ- ences are also cited especially with regard to the solutions the two poets offer to the problems of life .
