The fundamental differences between traditional and modem poetry can be observed in the comparison made between Motenabbi's "Alhami" and "Alvassieh" composed by Badr Shakeral- Siab's- one of the pioneers of modem poetry in the west. Ambiguity in the modern poetry replaces the joy of literary devices such as diction, metaphor, and way of expression. These may be considered as characteristics of the modern poetry. To obtain the intention of the poet, the reader must be familiar with the social changes, milieu of the poet, and have a proper cognition of the myths.Repetition of certain words and phrases, stresses, and the general atmosphere of the poems may be used as clues to deciphering mystery in the poems.
