interpretation and explanation are two different types of analytic methods that are employed for specific texts whose subject, author and text are of particular significance. Religious texts, including koran, is considered such a text. Explanation, based on the text and its addressee, is a more complicated and specialized use, as compared to interpretation. Traditionally, an understanding koran, scholars have regularly discussed about the importance and differences of these two method, but have not reached an agreement yet. This paper touches upon the necessary back-ground on the issue, and lays out the views of three contemporary theologians, Allameh Mohammad Hossein Tabataba'i, , Mohammad Hadi Ma'refat and Ja'far Sobhani.
