Reading Skills and Its Significance in TFL

Abstract

Reading is a process involving activation of relevant knowledge and related language skills to accomplish an exchange of information from one person to another. So reading is a very active skill and, as Perfetti (1948) defines, "reading is thinking guided by print". The final goal of reading is meaning. Teaching reading involves three stages: pre• reading, while-reading, and post-reading which go in order to succeed in "reading". Being aware of different strategies is a crucial point. Besides, the selection of appropriate material is very important. Reading skill has got many other aspects, which have been investigated in this article.
